(AnyWhere)
What we are looing for:

We have a need for HTML5 awesomeness, CSS3 spectacularness, and JS amazement. We are working on a new project that will require the development of multiple graphs and the display of information graphically thru HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript.

This project will span a few weeks, maybe close to 2 months.

We are open to any framework of choice, be it jQuery, Raphael.js, or whatever. As long as the outcome is solid, and works on multiple platforms (iOS, Android, Webkit, and Firefox).

AddSubtract is a small design and development house that focuses on clearly simple UI and solid development. Our next project has some real legs on it as we are rounding out the first round of seed funding and looking forward to a beta launch, then the next round of VC.

To Apply:

We aren't interested in your resume or any long winded cover letters. We want to see solid, demonstrated work. The first candidates we will consider should send over a live graph that demonstrates their skills. Show us you are capable of jumping right in with what we are looking to build. It doen't need to be pretty, we have designers to that end.

The next tier of candidates will send us links to graphs, widgets, information displays they have built in the past.

We aren't quite interested in the "I think I can get that done." type.

Requirements (in bullet point):

- Solid HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript skills. Send us links.

- Send us a built graph, that compares your skills in a pie chart.

Bonus Points (nearly an instant win):

- Your pie chart will animate into place.

- Your pie chart will be dynamic in that there is a drop-down or other input that will alter and re-draw the graph with the new data.

- You are quicker than everyone else.

UPDATE:

We don't need a phone call, pitch, slide deck or capabilites list. We just need a link to a coded graph from a previous project, or one you created to get this job. An hour or 2 of your time to create a sample graph is worth 2 months of paid work.

(New York City area, Anywhere)
I’m a small agency based near Boston (soon to be moving to NYC). I have clients in several industries and we’re building social networking apps, custom web apps, marketing sites integrated into content management systems, and anything else clients throw at us.

I’m a developer with a wide range of skills. If I don’t have a specific skill that’s needed, I either learn it or find another developer who does. I personally can do top notch front-end cross-browser work but also design and build a custom web application from scratch.

I need someone who can do the same thing. Someone who I can pass along projects and work to, who I don’t need to hand-hold, who knows how to check files in and out of repositories, how to find a cool jQuery UI effect and integrate it, how to figure out how a gem works and integrate it, how to take a PSD file and code it all the way through to an easy-to-use Wordpress site, how to interpret what a client asks for and get the work done or ask questions, how to communicate clearly and efficiently.

Here’s what I’m looking for:

Technologies: (all MUST-HAVEs)

Front-end expert - latest HTML, CSS, jQuery, CSS grid systems, responsive design

RubyOnRails - Rails 3, lots of gem integration experience

APIs - Facebook apps & Connect, Foursquare, Twitter

CMSs - Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla

PHP

Subversion & GIT

Photoshop

Traits:

Write well

Communicate well

Ability to speak directly with clients (go tech when necessary but explain in layman’s terms as well)

Work quickly and efficient, but MOST IMPORTANTLY pay close attention to details. We’ve been passing along buggy work to clients too often lately, so there needs to be a balance of fast work, but then a slow and calm review of work before delivery.

Keep updated on the latest in technologies relating to what we do. Front-end advances, HTML5, latest versions of Rails & gems, mobile, new types of apps being developed, Facebook Timeline apps, etc.

An eye for design couldn’t hurt - I don’t do design work personally, but I’m often called upon to clean something up quickly for a client. Would love someone to have that ability as well.

How we work:

We work remotely but a face-to-face meeting periodically couldn’t hurt. We can use Skype as well to review projects.

We use Basecamp to manage our projects (messages to communicate w/ client and TO DOs for basic issue & bug tracking)

We use an online time tracking & billing app.

We use Beanstalk GIT repositories.

We use Google Docs for spec docs (when necessary) and Mockingbird for Wireframing and Site Mapping sites when we design.

Future plans: Moving the business to New York City. Most of our clients are in the Northeast, and we work remotely, so location doesn’t matter but would HIGHLY prefer a NYC-area developer so we can meet from time to time.

Rate: $60/hr. Please EMAIL ONLY with "I can be another you!" in your subject line.

Apply:

BroadcastBank: Freelance Web Designer needed...please help!

(Anywhere)
Our web site, BroadcastBank.com is in desperate need of a redesign (i.e. trash it and start fresh). Yep, it looks crappy. We launched it with these placeholder graphics and now it needs to be "blown up" and replaced with something much better (as it turns out, programmers make unusually bad interface designers--which we knew going in, but hey, we bootstrapped).

Maybe you can help us? We're looking for someone who can do the graphic design and then create css/html for us to tie in with our back-end. Ideally, someone who cares equally about both design and usability. While we would love the redesign done yesterday, we are really intent on getting a new outstanding design, so we can be patient and wait for the right person to finish up with their current project. With the right person, this can turn into (if you want it to) ongoing freelance work, as we are adding new functionality every 3 weeks or so.

I'm hoping this can become a project that you can one day proudly point to and say, "bitch, please, I designed BroadcastBank."

Please respond with:

1. Web samples of your recent or favorite work where you did the user interface design/graphics+css/html.

2. Your availability

After we look at your work, we will contact you so we can talk about terms.

Vrasa: Custom CodeIgniter PHP Web App (Farming Commodities)

(Anywhere)
Project Description:

We've got a 2-4 month project we're working on for a client that needs a solid PHP dev to step in and take over completion of the project. The web app was started by another developer in CodeIgniter and is about 60%-70% complete. We have other devs in house who have completed the majority of the HTML/CSS/jQuery work for the web app, but now we need someone to finish up the core of the development to actually get the web app in working order for our client.

What We Need:

We need someone to do a bit of research for our client, figure out what's left on the web app development wise, and then actually finish up development. Due to the complications with the former dev we are planning on paying for an entire month of research on the project prior to development.

At the core, we need someone who knows their way around PHP, can work with our devs to polish off the front end UI that's already been built (integrating custom JavaScript, unique UI elements, etc). It would be very beneficial for us (but certainly not required) if you have a knowledge of stocks, futures, options, and various commodity markets.

Thanks for your time!

Apply: Let us know what you can do development wise and shoot over some samples of previous work!

(New Orleans, LA or anywhere)
Kickboard is changing the way teachers measure their impact in the classroom. We build web-based tools for teachers to track traditional grades as well as daily "micro data points" to highlight anecdotal evidence of student progress.

We've been recognized numerous times as leading innovators in education reform (EdWeek, Inc 30 under 30, Business Week) ...

... but in our opinion, we've only scratched the surface. We're building a compelling user experience to equip teachers with action-oriented charts, graphs and dashboards, enabling them to make smarter, real-time decisions about what to reteach, who to reteach, and how student behavior affects academic achievement.

And that's where you come in.

We're looking for a talented web and graphic designer with a strong desire to craft a visually-compelling experience that delights our teacher-users, and to constantly expand his or her design skills along the way. Ideally, you'll start immediately in a part-time capacity, with the opportunity to transition to full-time after successful completion of initial projects.

Solid understanding of layout, typography, color and other design principles

Holistic approach to web design that takes user flows, goals and page states into account

Proficiency in Illustrator, Fireworks and Photoshop

An ability to quickly develop and iterate designs based on feedback, and always meet deadlines

Excellent communication skills (we live in Skype and Podio)

Extras that will make you stand out:

Knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript with an ability to prototype using these technologies a strong plus

Experience working with developers, exposure to Agile development processes

Interested in educational equity and social entrepreneurship

Experience working with large data sets and knowledgable about data visualization best practices

Experience working with remote teams (if not based in NOLA)

What we offer:

Part-time position with steady work flow (25-30 hrs/week) with opportunity to increase hours and/or transition to full-time role down the line

Equally passionate, knowledgeable and supportive peers

Team-wide meetings in New Orleans 3x/year (and all the gumbo you can eat)

A product that is changing lives and you'll be proud of showing off (your teacher friends will love you!)

Kickboard is based in New Orleans (epicenter of education reform) but you can be based anywhere for this role. Part-time position available immediately.
